Message to the Maryland Emmaus Community This year started with an important question. The question is, is the Model we use for the Maryland Emmaus Weekends going to continue, or do we convert to the National Model as we are being directed to do by Upper Room (UR) National. At the beginning of my term of office we invited representatives of National Capitol Area Emmaus (NCA), an Independent Community and a representative from West Virginia Emmaus, who converted to the National Model by the authority of their Board of Directors, to share their experiences. After hearing their presentations, I appointed a nine person committee to study this issue. Your Board decided from the start that this would be a Community decision in Maryland. The committee represented our Gatherings across the State, our Chrysalis Community, our Deaf Community and Gender, 5 Brothers & 4 Sisters. The committee met 4 times over two months including a Skype meeting with Mr. Greg Engroff, Executive Director of Program Ministries for UR. After much deliberation the committee came back to the Board with a recommendation to separate from National. The Board accepted the Committee’s report but will not take a position on the voting. The Board would have preferred to have a central location for the vote. The Church we used in 2005 was considered but the cost would have been over $2,000 for the evening. An alternative site was chosen for two reasons. The Chrysalis Community meets on Friday June 7, 2013, the date we chose because there are no Emmaus Gatherings that evening. They offered their meeting time and place for the Community to Vote. There will be no cost and this will enable the Chrysalis Community to be involved. They meet at Crossroads Community Church in Westminster. 600+ capacity. I apologize for the inconvenience for many by the Location. This is a one-time event and will shape the future of Maryland Emmaus no matter the outcome. I hope Geography is not a consideration for this very important vote. We will have parking attendants to minimize any delay in getting into the meeting. We will start on time at 7:30 pm. There will be a formal agenda including a presentation of the issue, a Q & A period, followed by voting. The results of the vote will be announced that evening. The Chrysalis Young Adult Team will be commissioned during the vote count. The requirements are, only Members of the MD Emmaus/Chrysalis will vote. Please wear your button to receive a ballot. Our By Laws do not permit Proxy Voting. Thank You Carter Wilson (CLD)
